ATL Labs in India – A Model Worth Replicating

ATL Labs better known as Atal Tinkering Labs are part of an initiative of the Central Government to foster innovation, creativity and build scientific temper among students of the nation. Led by Atal Innovation Mission, ATL labs in India were the brainchild of NITI Aayog.

Ever since its inception, ATL Labs in India have been the recipient of national as well as international acclaim. The labs are being installed at an exponential rate with a view to bringing a love for science, tinkering and innovation in schools.

ATL Labs should be replicated across schools in India

A few weeks back, MGR Nagar Government Higher Secondary School and Ashok Nagar Government Girls Higher Secondary School, played host to a Malaysian delegation of headmasters and Malaysian Ministry of Education officials.

Therein, the educators studied the teaching methodology implemented at the school, along with the ATL lab, a high-tech computer as well as cloud computing lab. Apart from this, they were also left impressed by the DIKSHA app which has been inculcated at ATL labs. Using this app, students can download subject material and indulge in self-study.

Mr. Arumai Nayagam, District Education Officer, Seramban District, Malaysia, opined, “We were keen to learn a lot more about the teaching methodologies used in classrooms here. On observing classes here, we noticed that the teachers use a lot of teaching aids as well as interactive activities which we want to follow as well.”

Representatives from Finland and Singapore have also paid the school a visit to take stock of the infrastructure, free education and implementation of government schemes therein.
